Thiruvengadu: Sri Swedaranyeswarar Temple (Budhan Sthalam)

                Thiruvengadu, is a village comes under the taluk or town, Sirkali. It is situated on the way of Sirkali to Poompuhar. Thiruvengadu, is surrounded by many temples of saivism and vaishnavism. The nearby villages are Mangaimadam, Nangur (Thirunangur), Melaiyur, Allivilagam,etc. The Temple of  Swamy Ahoramoorthy (Lord Shiva) is situated in Thiruvengadu, in which the Graha of Education, called Pudhan is present. Particularly, There are three holy ponds are available in side and around the temple of  Lord Shiva. This temple is the main spot of devotees and tourists of all over India and World also. Devotees take bath in these three ponds, then going to the prayer of the Lord Shiva. 

                Any one can reach by north to Thiruvengadu through Sirkali, nearby town of Chidambaram. Otherwise, they can reach by south to Thiruvengadu through Karaikal to Sirkali (Chennai) route, taking a turn through Karuvi (Karuvizhunthanathapuram). Also, can reach by west through Mayiladuthurai to Poompuhar route.

                  Many tourists visit regularly to this temple by tourist buses or cars. Locally, people operate tourist vehicles from Thiruvengadu and Poompuhar. If anybody wish to make a devotional tour to Thiruvengadu, they can easily go to Vaithiswarankoil, Kethu Sthalam (Nearest to Poompuhar), and other Graha temples of Navagraha Sthalams which are nearer to Thiruvengadu.

                  Actually this map is based on the route, Mayiladuthurai - Dharumapuram-Mannampandal-Sembaranarkoil-Madappuram-Akkur-Akkur Corner (Centre of Vailankanni-Chennai Route)-Poonthaazhai-Thalachangadu-Karuvizhunthanathapuram (Karuvi)-Kuranguputhur-Melaiyur (Centre of Mayiladuthurai-Poompuhar route-SH22)-Manigramam-Tiruvengadu. Somebody made this map in google maps. But, easier route is Mayiladuthurai - Poompuhar (SH22).

Driving Route

From Mayiladuthurai bus stop, ask for Caltex, Position the direction, East from Caltex. Poompuhar is 24 kms from Mayiladuthurai. We can see the symbol of Silambu, on the start of road from Caltex. One can find the Thayumaanavar temple on the way of Poompuhar before the start. By following this route, we can reach Karuvizhunthanathapuram (Karuvi) after travelling 16 kms. We can see the arch, that shows the name of பூம்புகார் நுழைவாயில். Once enter in the east of this arch, travel takes nearly 3 kms, we can find the school, named Srinivasa Higher Secondary School on the right side of Melaiyur. Now, on the centre of the 3 roads, take left, and travel for nearly 4 kms, we can reach Tiruvengadu. You may follow the road, can see the school, SSD HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL on the right side of the road. Here, we can stop the vehicles. Once we see left, we can see the Sri Swedaranyeswarar Temple. There are lodges around the temple.
